Horseback Riding
The Cayman Islands, a wealthy British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea, comprise Little Cayman, less developed Cayman Brac, and upscale Grand Cayman. This archipelago is renowned for its fine white beaches, luxury hotels, and various activities. The pristine Seven Mile Beach is the highlight of Grand Cayman, also home to the country’s best snorkeling and diving spots. The capital, George Town, is packed with high-end luxury shopping and quaint local craft markets, while the iconic Stingray City attracts bathers to swim with tame Southern stingrays.
A relaxing Cayman Islands honeymoon is about soaking in this Caribbean paradise’s beauty. Multiple beaches invite couples to work on their tans and splash in the crystal blue waters. During your stay, you can enjoy the festivities throughout the year, like in late October for Pirates Week and in April for the Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament.
The islands offer a warm climate year-round, but the dry season of winter and spring is the most popular time to visit. From June to November, the Cayman Islands are in hurricane season, so it’s essential to monitor weather conditions and follow local advisories if traveling during this period. Whether a first-time rider or an experienced equestrian, a horseback riding tour with Spirit of the West will give you a new perspective on this beautiful island.
Stingray City
Stingray City is the number one attraction in the Cayman Islands – a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime experience that gets you up close and personal with huge Southern Stingrays. Swim, touch, and feed these beautiful creatures and even kiss them for good luck (they say it brings seven years of happiness).
The sand bar is only 3 feet deep, but the gorgeous turquoise water is crystal clear and stunning. The stingrays aren’t fenced in, but they’re familiar and comfortable with humans visiting the sandbar and are free to come and go as they please. Guests can hold them if they want, but this isn’t recommended because it can cause animal stress and discomfort.
You’ll be ferried to the Stingray City pier from your cruise ship, or you can book this excursion alone. We recommend booking this through a local company, as you’ll get the best prices. Having an underwater camera is also helpful as the water is so apparent here, and you can capture some incredible photos of the stingrays swimming around. Be sure to bring a small bag of food to feed the stingrays. They love squid and ballyhoo, but don’t over-feed them as this can lead to high cholesterol levels for the stingrays and an overall decline in their health.
Seven Mile Beach
The Cayman Islands are a precious pocket of sea pinched between the Americas and the Caribbean. Of all the beaches on this dazzling island chain, Seven Mile Beach has been dubbed by visitors and journalists alike as one of the best in the world. The picture-perfect stretch of cerulean waters and powdery white sand is the perfect backdrop for a vacation that will soothe your soul and leave you with lifelong memories. While many first-time visitors believe that Seven Mile Beach consists of only Governor’s Beach, Public Beach, Cemetery Beach, and West Bay Beach, the truth is that the entire beachfront on Grand Cayman is open to the public. Though you may encounter signs warning against trespassing, guards generally treat beachgoers with a relaxed attitude and rarely reprimand them for wandering the shoreline.
If you prefer a quieter section of the beach, check out the area near the Governor’s House on the northern end of the strip. It is the beach locals head to when they want a slice of paradise that’s less crowded. The tree-shaded parking lot opens onto a sweet section of the beach that’s seldom crowded. The water is pretty here, with some seaweed on the sand and various restaurants back on the beach. It’s a great spot to relax, work on your tan, and watch the sunset over the azure sea.
Relaxation
For those seeking a Cayman Islands honeymoon that’s as relaxing as it is exciting, there are plenty of opportunities to unwind on the island. Stroll hand-in-hand along the pristine beaches, or enjoy a sunset cruise with your loved one and watch the colors of the sky change before your eyes. The Caribbean island of Grand Cayman is a luxury destination with incredible things to see and do for everyone, from families to adventurous couples and curious foodies. The islands boast a wide range of water sports on the calm blue waters, including snorkeling, diving, and kayaking, while the pristine beaches offer a place to relax on soft white sand.
Foodies will find a wealth of upscale dining options, from the in-house restaurants at the most luxurious resorts to the dozens of gourmet restaurants that line George Town. There’s even an outpost of Miami’s Michael’s Genuine and a Blue by Eric Ripert at The Ritz Carlton. For the fishing enthusiasts, Cayman’s reef-bordered waters are home to bonefish, sailfish, tarpon, and marlin. With various luxury resorts, each offering unique features and amenities, honeymooners have the freedom to pick and choose what’s right for them. The Cayman Islands offer a paradise where all can experience an unforgettable vacation and begin the next chapter of their lives together.
